REVIEW: Roborock Saros 20

John ReillyMay 27, 2026

Roborock has long been a dominant force in the robot vacuum market, consistently raising the bar with each new flagship release. Announced at CES in January 2026 and available from this May in Ireland, the Roborock Saros 20 robot vacuum and mop combo arrives with up to 36,000Pa of suction power, a redesigned adaptive chassis, and an all-new autonomous navigation system.

It is not a revolutionary departure from its predecessor, but rather a well thought out evolution that fine-tunes what already worked and adds genuinely useful new capabilities for more demanding home environments. Whether tackling thick rugs, stubborn hair, or mopping kitchen tiles to a streak-free finish, the Saros 20 handles every task impressively well. The question is whether the premium price tag is justified. Read on to find out.

Design & Build Quality

The Roborock Saros 20 cuts a sleek, low-profile figure. Without the raised LiDAR puck found on many rivals, the robot sits at just under 8cm in height, allowing it to glide under sofas and low-level furniture with ease. The top of the unit is clean and minimal, featuring just two physical buttons for basic controls, with a smooth matte finish that resists fingerprints and looks smart. Build quality is excellent throughout, with solid panel fit and premium-feeling materials that line up with the price point.

The headline design innovation on the Saros 20 is the AdaptiLift Chassis 3.0. This updated system allows the robot to raise or lower its body to one of several preset heights depending on what it faces, enabling it to hover at the precise altitude needed for effective cleaning on pile carpets up to 3cm deep, without the risk of getting snagged in the fibres.

It can also vault itself over double-layer room thresholds up to a combined height of 8.8cm, an impressive feat that will make a real difference in older homes with uneven floor transitions.

Underneath, the Saros 20 is comprehensively equipped. A combination rubber-and-bristle roller brush is split down the middle to minimise hair tangles, and is supplemented by an extendable side sweeper arm that kicks outward to address room edges and skirting boards.

For mopping, the robot uses dual spinning disc pads, one of which extends laterally to mop right up to walls. The pads can be lifted, lowered, or deposited in the dock depending on the cleaning mode in use, giving the Saros 20 a level of contextual intelligence that’s genuinely impressive.

The accompanying RockDock clean station is large but comprehensive. It handles automatic dust emptying into a 2.5-litre bag, mop pad washing with boiling water at 100°C, hot-air drying at 55°C, clean water top-up with integrated detergent dispensing, and dirty water drainage.

New to this generation is a self-drying function for the internal dust bag, designed to prevent mould and musty odours developing over time. The dock requires a nearby power socket given its 110cm cable, and you will want to allow adequate floor space for it, but the maintenance it automates is very handy.

Performance

In everyday use, the Roborock Saros 20 is a remarkably capable cleaning machine. Initial setup is pretty painless. The robot connects to Wi-Fi reliably, maps multiple rooms in under two minutes using its Intelligent StarSight System 2.0, and produces an accurate floor plan ready for customisation with minimal fuss.

From that point, it largely gets on with things independently, following logical cleaning routes and returning to its dock without prompting.

Vacuuming performance is genuinely outstanding. In standardised tests using both ground and course coffee on both hard floors and mid-pile carpet, results were consistently strong. The robot cleared the vast majority of larger debris in a single pass.

Mopping performance is equally accomplished on hard flooring. The dual spinning pads cover tiled and laminate surfaces evenly, removing light marks and leaving a streak-free finish. The intelligent obstacle recognition, powered by 3D ToF sensors capable of detecting objects as small as 2cm, handles common household hazards reliably, skirting around shoes, chair legs, and other obstacles with considered caution.

As with most robot vacuums, cables and thin straps remain a weak point, but overall avoidance accuracy is among the best available at this price level. Occasional erratic behaviour when executing specific zone-clean requests was observed during testing, though day-to-day scheduled cleaning proved consistently reliable.

The dock cleaning system deserves special mention. After tackling a particularly demanding mopping test, the mop pads emerged from the self-clean cycle looking and smelling pristine, with no residual stickiness. The self-empty mechanism also handled significant quantities of general dirt and discarded food from my 9 month old’s lunchtime antics without jamming, which has historically been a weak point for some auto-empty docks. In over a month of regular use, the only maintenance required was refilling the main water tank and emptying the dirty water reservoir.

App Functionality & Features

The Roborock app is one of the most feature-rich companion applications in the robot vacuum category, and the Saros 20 takes full advantage of its capabilities.

Room mapping is clear and intuitive, with easy tools to divide, merge, rename, and assign cleaning preferences to individual spaces. Scheduling is flexible, allowing users to set different cleaning modes, suction levels, and water flow rates on a room-by-room basis. Restricted zones, no-mop zones, and custom cleaning areas can all be drawn directly onto the map with a few taps.

Smart presets and auto-configuration options mean that even less technically minded users can achieve excellent results without diving into every available setting. However, the sheer volume of options and sub-menus can feel overwhelming for newcomers to the category.

Some sections of the app could benefit from consolidation, and the depth of customisation, while a genuine asset for power users, may prove daunting for those simply looking for a set-and-forget experience. That said, experienced robot vacuum users will find the Roborock app to be a genuinely powerful tool, offering a degree of control and real-time feedback that many competitors simply cannot match.

Additional smart features include real-time cleaning progress tracking, detailed cleaning reports, consumables monitoring with replacement reminders, and compatibility with major voice assistant platforms. The Saros 20 also supports multi-floor mapping, making it a practical choice for larger homes across multiple levels.

Remote access allows users to trigger, pause, or redirect cleaning sessions from anywhere with a mobile connection, and the responsive live map updates provide useful visibility into exactly what the robot is doing at any given moment.

Conclusion

The Roborock Saros 20 is an exceptionally capable robot vacuum that earns its flagship status with confidence. It does not reinvent the wheel, but it refines the formula to near-perfection: powerful suction, excellent mopping, intelligent navigation, and a comprehensive dock that minimises user effort to an almost negligible level.

The AdaptiLift Chassis 3.0 is a genuinely practical upgrade for households with thick rugs or uneven floor transitions, and the hair performance on carpet is among the best we have encountered in this category.

The app is feature-packed and well-designed, if occasionally overwhelming in its depth. Minor quibbles aside, this is a robot vacuum that can be trusted to clean a home thoroughly and independently, day after day. It is overkill for smaller, simpler spaces, but for those who want the very best the market currently offers, the Saros 20 is a compelling and worthy investment.
